“Creativity is not a ‘talent.’ It is a method of operating.”

- John Cleese

From DAWN

The first step to any new project is defining exactly what I’m doing. This usually starts with a design brief explaining who I’m talking to, what the goal of this project is, and what I will be designing.

Define

From Killer

Once I have a project defined, I research like crazy. I learn more about my topic, competition, and how I can best execute the project with an empathetic view of my audience. I am constantly researching and revisiting research during the whole process.

Research

From Polaris

Once I have an idea of where this research is leading me, I start planning and sketching deliverables. This can be sitemaps, wireframes, sketches, and many, many lists.

Planning

From Kindred

Ideation occurs at every stage, similar to research. I take a look at my plan for a project and try to think of as many ways as possible to create it. Every decision is made by narrowing options down to find the best one.

Ideation

While I’m ideating, I create. After looking over the created pieces, either by myself or with a crit board, I go back and revise. I’ll revise as many times as it takes to get something right.
