Historically-Inspired Perfume

Objective - Many people know King Henry VIII because of his 6 wives, but how many know anything about them? Anne Boleyn can often be named, but what about Anne of Cleves or Catherine Parr? These women were more than “divorced, beheaded, died, divorced, beheaded, survived,” and this project is designed to highlight that.

Approach - The Essence of Tudor perfume line has six perfumes to represent each of the six women. The scents, colors, and patterns all embody what is known of how they lived their lives, both as individuals and queens of England.

Execution - To ensure the perfumes represent real women, rather than fictional characters inspired by them as seen in shows like The Tudors or Six, thorough research is conducted on each woman. Each box features an illustration, a pattern, a full biography, and adjectives commonly used to describe the women. Additionally, each perfume includes a scent card that explains the connection between the women and their scent.

Illustration

The illustrations for each woman are based on contemporary portraits of them. Their unique patterns are derived from an element chosen from each portrait.
